Program Support Assistant (Enrollment/Eligibility)

Duties include:
-Interviews applicants for VA healthcare and other benefits. -Informs applicants of the eligibility requirements for healthcare and other benefits. -Answers general questions about eligibility for outpatient care, inpatient care, long term care, dental care and other healthcare system programs and entitlements. -Listens and is attentive to the needs and concerns of the applicant while helping the applicant understand the VA healthcare system. -Makes determinations and verifications of eligibility through document review, and access to various sources and computer systems. -Maintains and monitors pending application file until final determination is made. -Enrolls applicants through the Health Eligibility Center and ensures that all registrations are complete. -Updates enrollee information and obtains information necessary to process updated enrollment. -Informs applicants deemed ineligible for VA healthcare on why the determination of not eligible was made. -Assists the applicants deemed eligible and enrolled for VA healthcare in establishing care with a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). -Schedules and confirms vesting appointment with enrolled applicants at the facility or another VA facility as requested. -Processes requests for the Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) after verification of identity through the IVM Identity Toolkit. -Assists in the training of new or current employees and implements procedural changes as directed by the supervisor. -Assists with providing reports, audits, reviews, and identifies and resolves backlogs within the unit. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Experience:
One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the Program Support Assistant position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in federal service to qualify at the Grade 5. Specialized experience for this position would consist of:
experience in positions which required skill in operating a computers to type correspondence such as memorandums, letters, reports, etc.; skill in operating computers, printers, typewriters, calculators, and software programs such as MS Word, Excel and Office or compatible software; experience in positions that required customer service skills such as a receptionist, receiving telephone calls, routing calls to appropriate staff, greeting the customers, etc.; and skill in oral and written communication and interpersonal relations, to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers. OR Substitute of Education for Experience - 4 years above high school:
Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. OR Combining Experience and Education - Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying for this position. Note:

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Work Environment:
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as a medical facility clinic/office. There is adequate light, heat and ventilation in the work area, and is primarily located at or near the Transportation and Information Desks and the adjoining PAS area, which is one of the most critical and sensitive areas in the facility because it represents an area where applicants, Veterans, family members, visitors, and others form their first impressions of the ABJ CBOC. The work area is separate from the areas open to the general public during normal hours. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
