Director of Development


  • 5-7 Years of experience: Development, fundraising, communications and/or Public Relations

  • Strong Relationship building experience

Position Summary:
Responsible for maintaining and growing the donor base for a variety of initiatives. This focuses primarily on individual gifts between $5,000 and $100,000, as well as cultivating corporate gifts from $25,000 to $100,000.
The objective is to solicit, renew and establish a program of "Moves Management for individuals including employees, physicians and grateful patients.
An essential function of the position includes communicating with both internal and external donors and prospects via in person meetings, community events, letters/mailings and various Foundation events. Will play a key role in developing effective short and long-term planning for the Foundation

  • 5-7 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Development, Fundraising, Communications and/or Public Relations

  • Fundraising generalist background with a record of achievements and demonstrated expertise in multiple areas of development, including, but not limited to, employee campaigns, annual fund, corporate/community giving

  • Demonstrated ability and success in cultivating and soliciting donors for leadership Annual Fund gifts and Major Gifts (&Client; $5,000)

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work to meet defined goals and objectives

  • Advanced computer skills required, including, but not limited to, accounting software packages, financial consolidation software, Windows operating system (Windows 7 or higher), Microsoft Office Suite programs (2003 or higher) and use of Internet

  • Ability to handle various special projects on an on-going basis while addressing daily office needs

  • Requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Exhibits a willingness to assume additional responsibilities

  • A proven record of working cooperatively and flexibly as part of a team

  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities and maintain a positive attitude at times of increased workload

  • Takes initiative, but knows when to ask for clarification

  • The position will work closely with the Executive Director, but is expected to complete assignments with minimum supervision

  • Extensive experience with normal office equipment (computers, telephone, multi-function devices, voice mail, etc.)

  • Strong command of the English language, both written and spoken

  • Must have the ability to accurately write, proofread and edit some basic reports and correspondence with emphasis on appropriate use of English grammar, punctuation and spelling

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Company Mission and the vision of the Foundation, especially as it relates to donor relations and its contribution to the Annual Fund


  • Experience with physician giving programs, capital campaign management, grateful patient programs and/or volunteer management

  • Experience in fundraising/development in a not-for-profit healthcare system environment

  • Experience with using Blackbaud's Raisers Edge, Target Analytics' ResearchPoint or similar donor management and wealth screening software

    • Experience with interpreting reports generated by the above software, as well as Crystal Reports

Physical Environment:
Traditional office environment; level of activity ranges from sedentary work with a certain amount of sitting, walking and standing to occasional light work involving lifting of supplies and moving objects; requires occasional travel, exposure to travel and weather conditions; and requires the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Physical Demands:
Occasional standing, walking, relatively constant sitting; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects; occasional handling, filing, photocopying; constant reading, writing, typing, telephone and computer use. Inability to perform the physical requirements of the job would be detrimental to the performance of the position and operation of the department.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
