General Function:
Assist microbiologists and technicians by performing support functions
Characteristic Duties and
Responsibilities:
1) Perform daily quality control functions including scale calibration, pre-op workstation swabbing, air controls and temperatures
2) Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
3) Assist microbiologist by weighing, homogenizing, pouring, swirling, stacking, dating and incubating quantitative plates
4) Assist microbiologist when aliquoting samples for storage studies
5) Prepare PDA by adding required supplement
6) Practice GLP
7) Weigh and enrich pathogen samples as required
8) Assist lab support in keeping the laboratory stocked with supplies
9) Maintain retain storage and disposal
10) Perform routine housekeeping functions and inventory as required or scheduled
11) Document appropriate action and information as required
12) Perform additional duties as required
Reporting Relationships:
Reports to : Microbiology Supervisor
Instruction received: Work flow assigned by Microbiologist
Minimum Requirements:
Requires high school diploma or GED
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Desirable Traits:
Organizational skills and the ability to think on your feet; desire to be productive team member who exhibits until the job is done behavior
Working Conditions:
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting.
Some exposure to unpleasant elements. Some element of personal risk due to handling
bacteria, chemicals, steam and heat.
