Qualified Mental Health Staff Shifts:
We have vacancies for the evening shift (3PM - 11PM) and overnight shift (11PM - 7AM).
One weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) will be required.
The applicant may work both days if preferred.
Position
Summary:
The Qualified Mental Health Staff (QMHS) position works as an integral part of the Lake County Jail's interdisciplinary team providing crisis intervention and mental health monitoring in the context of the individual and group.
Specific Duties Include:
Respond to mental health emergencies throughout the jail.
Monitor individuals placed on close or constant suicide precautions.
Collaborate with custody staff to ensure a professional, therapeutic environment.
Provide mental health and/or alcohol and other drug treatment, crisis intervention, and individual and group counseling support services to a diverse inmate population in a corrections environment.
Provide appropriate recommendations for care to inmates requiring on-going treatment.
Facilitate group activities in the mental health unit.
Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary health care teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Required Education:
A minimum of bachelor's level education and training in psychology, counseling, social work or psychiatric nursing, or five (5) years of comparable experience.
We may relax these requirements slightly depending on the candidate's individual qualities and goodness of fit for the position.

The part-time QMHS position is considered an entry level mental health position.
Employees who demonstrate good clinical skills and work ethic are eligible for promotion to any available full-time positions.
We encourage graduate students (in counseling/social work/psychology) to apply, as most of our full-time master's level staff started off in our department as QMHS staff or interns.
